People react differently to light treatment. Most people can be treated very safely but there are some rare situations where treatment may be unsuitable. This may be due to your skin colour (dark skins are more problematic as the melanin the skin absorbs the light, increasing the likelihood of side effects). Some medications are "photosensitising", i.e. they increase the skins reaction to light and could cause blistering. Very light hair colours, including pale blonds and grey, do not respond to hair removal. There are also many other factors that our trained technicians need to assess to protect your safety. For this reason we have to insist on a face to face consultation.
The consultation consists of an examination of the area to be treated, a thorough medical questionnaire and an assessment of your treatment needs. The technician will advise you of any contra-indications, whether you are suitable for treatment and if so, the price guide and number and frequency of treatments. We cannot do this over the phone, so please do not ring up for prices.
If you are suitable for treatment and decide to proceed, you will be offered a test patch which is free.
Bring any medications with you so we can check them against our contra-indications list and take medical advice if necessary.
Following the test patch you need to wait 1 week before treatment.
All medical and treatment information will be treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1988. This means it will be stored securely and used only for the purpose of providing your treatment. Photographs have to be taken to record treatment progress but we will not use these in any publications without your permission. Data will not be divulged to third parties (unless we are legally obliged to do so by the authorities - for more details on this please ask at your consultation).
